Athanatoi Horses aka ATO HORSES

Stallions at Stud

Our 30 horse farm is located in Sage, a rural area in between Temecula and Hemet, in Southern California.  San Diego is less than an hour’s drive to the Southwest.  Our horse breeds include Thoroughbreds, Akhal Tekes, Nez Perce Horses, Appaloosas, Quarter Horses, Warmbloods, Cleveland Bays, and Mustangs.

Besides horses, we also have goats, dogs, and cats who share our lives.

Our name derives from THE HIPPOI ATHANATOI (ATHANATOI HORSES), which were the immortal horses of the Greek gods. The majority of these divine steeds were offspring of the four Wind-Gods who themselves were said to draw the chariot of Zeus in the shape of horses.

In the spirit of these divine creatures, our goal at ATO Horses is the development of healthy, balanced, strong, and sound, energetic, and athletic all around sport horses that possess grace, stamina and endurance, speed and power to dominate any equine discipline they are selected and trained for.  We strive to maximize the connection between human and equine partner by breeding sport horses with a ‘good mind’.

We have also taken in rescues, seniors, and injured horses as a retirement home and / or rehabilitative training. Most of these are off the track Thoroughbreds that came to us with injuries rendering them unridable.  We offer them a forever home. A close friend once told us:  “If you don’t rescue, don’t breed!”  Our rescue efforts started before we ever embraced the concept of breeding horses for any purpose. Our oldest equine residents are retired horses well into their 20s.

We regard our animals as family and do not sell any of them. Due to the number of horses in our herd, we have “frozen” our own breeding program, but we offer our stallions for breeding to the public. Some of our breeds are rare and we offer breeding for color.
