NEZ PERCE HORSE: QACANO PARKER

FOALED APR 26TH 2011

The Nez Perce horse is an extremely rare breed, fostered by the Nez Perce Native American tribe in Idaho, a tribe well known in history for their horse breeding skills. The Nez Perce program seeks to re-establish the horse culture of the Nez Perce Indians, a tradition of selective breeding of Appaloosa horses and horsemanship that was destroyed in the 19th century.  In 1870, there were approximately 10000 horses. During the times of Chief Joseph, this horse breed was far superior to any enemy horses, which ultimately led to its destruction as a collective breed in 1877. At the end of the Indian Wars in 1890, only 1100 remained and were disbursed throughout the country.  Later thought to be extinct, the Nez Perce tribe bred Akhal Teke stallions and Appaloosa mares to revive this magnificent powerful horse; The Nez Perce Horse Registry (NPHR) program began in 1995 in Lapwai, Idaho and is based on cross-breeding the old-line Appaloosa horses (the Wallowa herd) with an ancient Central Asian breed called Akhal-Teke.  In 2014, the Nez Perce counted approximately 70 Nez Perce Horses, making this horse breed extremely rare throughout the world.

The Akhal-Teke is an ancient breed that originated in Turkmenistan (near Afghanistan). They are known for their superb endurance and “metallic” coats.

The Nez Perce Horse is a spotted horse - a typical Nez Perce Horse has Appaloosa characteristics—mottled skin with a spotted coat or a blanket and often features the metallic shine of the Akhal Teke coat.  Most Nez Perce Horses measure 14.2 to 15 hands.

They excel at long rides and compete well in endurance races; they’re also excellent jumpers. The Nez Perce Horses are often “gaited,” with a fast and smooth running walk.

Qacano (Nez Perce for 'courageous') combines four distinct bloodlines: to include racetrack Appaloosa, as well as the Old Herd (descendants of an old herd left behind in 1877), damsire "Sentor", whose bloodline is rare and prestigious and of course Akhal Teke foundation stallion, "Pietre".  Foaled in Washington State (Lopez Island) in 2011.

Registered with Nez Perce Horse Registry, NPHR 223.

Measures almost 16 hands.

His Color is extremely unusual and flashy:  Shiny bay akhal teke coat with appaloosa patterns: blanket, snowcap, snowflake, varnish roan, frost, and pintaloosa. He changes color with the seasons.

As soon as he arrived at our facility, we had offers to buy him. (Sorry, he is not and will not be for sale!)

Raised in a herd, he is extremely well mannered; intelligence is way above average. He is very willing and picks up quick in training.

Nothing seems to rattle him, very self-confident while remaining manageable.

His body looks as though he was built to climb mountains. His progeny will excel in trails, endurance, ranch work, and Western disciplines as well as any English/ Sporthorse disciplines.

He is strong, athletic, energetic, rhythmic mover. Coupled with the right mare, he will produce amazing sports horses for jumping or dressage.

One of less than a handful of Nez Perce stallions standing to the public in the world.  Stud Fee private treaty.  (For current rates see our ad in Stallionsnow.com.) Live cover or shipped semen.
